What to Ask Your Hair Stylist:

Color

I would never skip out on telling you all the hair details boo! 😉

Kassie and I did a partial foil, with heavy face-framing highlights (ex. money-pieces). We kept my dark brown hair as a base because I didn’t want to lighten my hair fully. For the highlighted pieces, she lifted from a level 2 (almost black/dark brown) to level 8 for a cool-tone caramel color.

Cut

Since my hair is weirdly thick, Kassie does an amazing job on both cutting that heavy density while adding more lighter weight with some ‘natural’ wispy face-framing layers. These face-framing pieces are a great alternative for bangs, in case you are looking for something less permanent!

Color Maintenance

Thankfully this is a veryyy low-maintenance color for dark brown hair, and you won’t need to rush to the salon every few weeks!

+ Salon-grade shampoo/conditioner – Making sure your shampoo/conditioners are sulfate-free is key to keeping your color, as some brands tend to include sulfate – which is known to strip your color! Yikes

+ Brass-Off Shampoo/Conditioner – If you are like me and hate any hint of orange in my hair, these brass-off conditioning products are just what you need. Without the harsh stripping that comes with a shampoo, just leave on this blue-toned (blue eliminates the orange) shampoo for a few minutes and you should be ready to go! [Asking your hairstylist first is recommended]

+ Keep hair masks in your rotation! – Depending on your specific hair texture, hair color tends to dry your hair out. A weekly hair mask isn’t necessary but is HIGHLY recommended to keep your hair hydrated and shiny! We want to keep that healthy-colored hair.

Favorite Products I Use

Blow dryerthermal hair brush & blow dryer brushes – Recently I went back to using my blow dryer and my hair hasn’t looked BOUNCIER! These tools work wonders together, giving my hair a smooth, salon-quality finish that’s full of life and bounce. If you’re looking to up your styling game, I highly recommend revisiting these tools – your hair will thank you!

+Hair serums – For anyone with thick, frizzy, curly hair like mine, a good repairing oil is an absolute essential. Add color treatment into the mix, and it becomes even more of a necessity.

The right serums have truly transformed my hair, breathing life back into my dry ends. Not only do they work wonders for smoothing and revitalizing my strands, but they also smell divine! It’s like a little luxury every time I use them, and my hair feels healthier and more manageable with each application.

+Hair ties – You might not think a hair tie is all that important, but trust me, it can make a world of difference! Let’s talk about something every hair lover dreads: breakage. Using the wrong kind of hair tie—especially those thin, rough ones—can lead to unnecessary pulling, tugging, and ultimately, damage.

I’ve learned that opting for a softer, thicker hair tie can be a total game-changer. Not only does it hold your hair securely, but it also minimizes the risk of those dreaded hair-pulling moments. Your strands stay intact, and you avoid that painful snap when you take your hair down. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make all the difference!

Whether you’re a balayage newbie or a seasoned pro, Go for it! Your hair is about to look effortlessly sun-kissed and fabulous. ✨
